The History of Hollywood

Hollywood is a mythical location who many who have graced its golden hills and exists as the beacon for talent from all over the world who arrive looking to be "discovered". Hollywood represents the one location where anything can happen, a young woman can be waiting tables one day and starring in a hit flick the next. Hollywood was not always so glamorous and full of opportunity. The city began as a ranch in 1853. When the owners of the property decided that it was similar their country home in Ohio, this location was christened Hollywood, after their home in Ohio.

As the city continued to grow it was a thriving Metropolis by 1900 when there was a population of 500 as well as a postal office and a police station. The city itself installed railway cars in 1904 to allow all of the citizens to get around the city. It was during this time that there was a population boom as people were able to get around at a much faster rate. However, one thing that was an issue was the lack of water in the city. In the same year of 1904, Hollywood was properly annexed by Los Angeles which ensured that all of the citizens would have access to the resources that they needed.

It was right after this annexation that the studios began to head west to make their movies. Hollywood was the best location for the sun, the weather, and all of the places to record without having to worry about the lawsuits from Edison that were arising back east. Thomas Edison had in fact, claimed that all of the technology to make movies belonged to him as well as the patents. For this reason, mainly all of the studios fled to the west to get away from the problems that Edison's lawyers brought with them.

Hollywood continues to be the place where dreams come true and also where the lifestyles of the rich, opulent, and influential play out. This is a blog that is dedicated to opulence, travel, excess, and the beautiful things in life as we are going to take you on a virtual tour.
